EDITOR’S NOTE

One year ago today Spannk was launched to the world. In my mind and heart, I can honestly admit to you that this thing almost never happened. It shouldn’t have. The higher powers, that govern our existence, collectively decided that this magazine was not meant to be. All three partners were saddled with such major problems that Spannk was an afterthought. Something you remembered to do, because your conscience demanded its attention. We’d worked so hard FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR beforehand that quitting would have been worse for our morale. Pushing through and building Spannk saved our lives…

Admittedly, that’s a bold statement, but so true that just thinking back on working on our baby the past year brings the biggest smile to my face. Julian, Alan, and I have fought, laughed, partied, grown as human beings, and learned so much about who we are in the past year than at any other point in our lives. This is no small feat when you consider that all three of us have lived our years with our feet barely on the brakes. But the Spannk Chapter is one that will leave marks in our memories until there’s dirt thrown on our caskets. The challenge was dealt with, fellas, and look who’s still standing. There are no pretenders over here.

This brings me back to the one year mark. People ask me why we launched Spannk. What’s the point of this project? Simple answer: Miami…Spannk was undoubtedly created for this city that we’re madly in love with; a city that I dream about constantly in this foreign country. Without Miami, there is no Spannk…And certainly no Raul Bermudez.

So while we’ve stuttered along the way with our grammatical errors and misspellings we’ve gotten better at identifying ourselves and our voice. And it’s about to get so much better. We’re currently in negotiations to bring some finances to our magazine. A budget to play with, for: man power, lawyers, bigger and better parties, more women, videos, and overall leverage to fully live out our vision… Believe it or not dear readers; the boys at Spannk do have a plan.

With that being said, I urge you to continue to support our passion. We’re in love with Spannk and all of you who’ve made it part of your lives. We frequently speak and think about our loyalists; the Spannk nationalists… I thank you…You know who you are.

Enjoy our 13th issue. There will be no sophomore slump over here. This lil’ mom-n-pop operation, with its quirky appeal, has begun to coast. Trust me when I say that I’m not going to quit until I see Julian walk that red carpet and finally show the world the correct way to Blue Steel. And there’s Alan…What can I say? Our Colombian Clooney has a personal vendetta to sit cross-legged like a hairy Picasso and explain, in French, what it takes to build a dream… The cameras are rolling, the computers are whirling, and we haven’t even warmed up…
